SAN DIEGO, CALIF – March 26, 2012 — President and CEO of Med System, Susan B. Davis, is representing the company at the Pacific Institute of Nursing Conference held in Honolulu, Hawaii March 28-30, 2012. The Conference will be held at the Hilton Hawaiian Village, Waikiki Beach Resort.
Given that nursing must constantly respond to a rapidly changing health care environment, the theme of the conference is “Nursing in the 21st Century.” If they want to shape the discourse framing health policies, nurses must actively participate in the ongoing reforms. Conference participants will even be asked to address such political issues as whether health care is a right or a privilege.
Among the distinguished Keynote Speakers are Joanne Spetz, PhD, Professor of Health policy at the University of California, San Francisco, Linda Burnes Bolton, DrPh, RN, FAAN, Vice President for Nursing, Chief Nursing Officer and Director of Nursing Research at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, and COL Denise Hopkins-Chadwick, Chief, Department of Nursing Sciences- Academy of Health of Sciences, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The conference is expected to draw heavily from Army service personnel and will address their issues.
In 2009, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality awarded the University of Hawaii School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene a three-year grant for the Pacific Institute of Nursing’s Annual Conference on Advancing Practice, Education and Research through Evidence-Based Practice. One of signature functions of the Hawaii State Center for Nursing is conducting research on best practices and quality outcomes.
