Taking Your Medical Equipment Onboard an Airplane?

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SAN DIEGO, CALIF – February 27, 2012 — So you’re going on an airplane and want to take your percussor or airway clearance device with but don’t know what to expect when you’re going through the checkpoint. Well, things have gotten a little easier for you. As reported by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, in December 2011, the Transportation and Safety Administration (TSA)

introduced a toll-free helpline that answers questions about screening policies and procedures for travellers with disabilities in order to assist them in preparing for the airport screening process. This is particularly useful for those with cystic fibrosis and other conditions that require them to travel with medical equipment, portable breathing machines, needles, medications, and liquid solutions – not travel friendly items when the TSA is looking for explosives.

The “TSA Cares” toll-free number is 1-855- 787-2227. This helpline is available Monday through Friday from 9am to 9pm (Eastern Time) and is closed on Federal holidays. It is recommended that those seeking information call at least 72 hours in advance of a flight.

You may also find information by going to the TSA website:

Med Systems, maker of the Electro Flo® 5000 airway clearance device, is also doing what it can to make its products easily transportable. The complete unit including a Self-Administrator comes in a lightweight case that weighs less than 6 pounds fully loaded. You carry it with a shoulder strap when maneuvering through the airport and airplane, and once onboard, you simply store the compact carrier under the airline seat. Now when travelling has become a necessity for many, your medical equipment can facilitate, not hinder, the experience.

Med Systems, Inc. is a family-owned company that has been providing respiratory care solutions since 1976.
